On May 4th the Fort Lauderdale temple was dedicated and brett and I were fortunate to not only attend, but sit in the same celestial room as an apostle of The Lord.. talk about COOL!
Let me back track slightly...
The temple was announced in 2009 (the year that we got married) and the groundbreaking was in 2011 (the year we started law school in Naples) and it was finally completed and dedicated the WEEK that we were moving! Needless to say, this temple is very special to us.
So back to the present.
Everyone said that it was going to be extremely difficult to get tickets to go to this dedication but I kept asking Brett to do anything that he possibly could to get two for us. We ended up running into our stake president a few weeks before it was happening and gave him the speal.. "Oh I'm a convert!" "Oh, we are from South Carolina and not Utah (making it slightly more difficult to go to general conference or something like that) .. He got what we were saying and placed the "golden tickets" in our hands! JUST LIKE THAT! We were ecstatic!
We had our go to baby sitters watch our kiddoes (yes, I even had a bottle pumped for Ollie).. And brett and I were off to Fort Lauderdale (1.5 hours away) it was such a nice a peaceful car ride with my best friend (it's rare when we don't have kids in the car).. We arrived an hour early and we just enjoyed the beautiful temple grounds and went in early to catch a good seat (even though there wasn't a bad one). The temple was amazing. Every detail was beautiful and perfect to a tee. I could not have imagined a more beautiful place. I would have to say the one thing that stood out to me the most was the chandelier in the celestial room. I could not stop staring at it. President Uchtdorf preformed the temple dedication. What an amazing man. I was completely overcome with the spirit before he even walked into the room but words can not express my true feelings at that very moment. Love was just eminating from him and I felt it.. And I felt my Savior's love and His very arms wrap around me.
Once the dedication was over, President Uchtdorf immediately got up and shook the hands of the handicapped and the few young kids that attended (which I loved that he did that).
Brett and I walked the grounds some more and took a few pictures.
What a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I feel so special and blessed to have been able to go, and I am grateful to have had my eternal companion right by my side. What a testimony builder!
The temple IS a HOLY place.
